October 2023 News and Calendar

Dear SFACA Families:

I am happy to say that our first month of school began smoothly. I am slowly getting to know your children and it has been wonderful to learn their names and which grades they belong. I am enjoying meeting them in the schoolyard as we exchange greetings every morning.

Our “Back to School Night” was a complete success. I was glad to be able to meet you all and for you to have the opportunity to meet your child’s teacher. I ask that you have an open communication with your child’s teacher and make sure that you address any concerns or issues that may arise. The teacher and parent collaboration is the most important tool to ensure that your child is successful in school. Please know that my office is open to your concerns as well, but I encourage to always communicate with your child’s teacher first. We as a school community will work together to ensure that all academic and emotional concerns will be addressed.

There will be the “Blessings of the Animals” on Sunday, October 1st at 1:30pm in the schoolyard. Please bring all your furry family friends to get blessed by Monsignor Maresca as we kick off “Spirit Week” in celebration of our patron saint, St. Francis of Assisi. Please refer to the calendar for the series of events that week. It will be a week of special and fun activities for our students. We will end our week on Friday, October 6th with a special mass celebrated by Bishop Brennan at 9:00am. Please join us if you are able. There will also be an early dismissal on Friday at 12:30pm for grades K-8. The 3K/PreK Program will have a full day program with their regular dismissal.

School will be closed on Monday, October 9th for Columbus Day/Indigenous People’s Day. Please enjoy the long weekend with family and friends.

Please join me for “Breakfast with the Principal” for parents in grades K-2 from 8:30am to 9:30am on October 24th. Coffee and light refreshments will be served while we chat about what is on your mind. A google form will be sent home to register prior to the meeting.

School will be closed on October 31st for our Faculty/Staff Retreat. Please keep us all in your prayers and we will keep you all in ours. Enjoy the day with your children and have a safe Halloween.

A few gentle reminders:
• Student absence notes must be given to their teacher on the day they are to return indicating the reason.
• Students are to remember to bring all books needed for homework because students are NOT permitted to return to the classroom after they dismiss from school.
• If a student is absent and books are needed to complete class work/homework, please call the office and request the materials. Please also notify the teacher so the materials may be sent down in sufficient time for the teacher to prepare the materials requested. Please contact the office and the teacher before 10am.
• Please indicate your child’s name, grade, purpose, and the exact change for all food orders. This is very important for the lunch moms to keep orders accurate. Pizza is served on Thursdays, but payment is due on Monday for that week.

Kindly remember that there should be NO SMOKING on school grounds. Please refrain from smoking near the school and church premises, especially near our students and families. In addition, please be mindful of double parking and blocking the yellow school busses in the front of the school. Our children’s safety is always our priority. Please remember that there should be no running or playing around the church or the steps after dismissal. Thank you for your cooperation.

Sincerely,

Ms. Elizabeth Reilly, Faculty, and Staff
